Three rules for sorting through measures:

  1. If it is a financial indicator – it can never be a KPI
  2. If the time period is longer than a week -it can never be a KPI
  3. If you cannot phone someone to accept responsibility for performance – it is not a KPI as it is a result indicator, a measures of teams working together
